ABATE Of Georgia Legislative Agenda https://abategeorgia.com/2021/10/08/abate-of-georgia-legislative-agenda/ Fri, 08 Oct 2021 18:02:46 +0000 https://abategeorgia.com/?p=393
  • Stop Discriminatory Practice:
  • Motorcyclists are not criminals just because they ride a motorcycle. Performing motorcycle only stops are discriminatory practice!

    2. Legalize Lane Filtering:

At a basic level, “lane filtering” occurs when a rider moves between two lanes of slow-moving or stopped traffic to get to the front of the intersection. Allowing motorcycles to get out from in between traffic so they can avoid rear-end collisions at a low speed is a safe operation. This process is currently an active law in 13 states and the District of Columbia.

    3. Increase Penalties for Injuring or Killing a Rider:

Penalties issued for causing injury or death of a motorcyclist are commonly capped as a misdemeanor and limited to fines, while automobile accidents generally are assessed at a higher level (i.e., vehicular homicide).

    4. Freedom of Choice:

ABATE of Georgia is a strong proponent of personal choice. We believe the individual should have the right to determine what is a safe and acceptable choice.

    5. Red Light:

In many cases, motorcycles do not trigger the sensors to allow them to move through a left turn safely, with the turn light. This legislation would allow the motorcyclist to proceed after waiting a specific time without fear of citation and removing the fear of rear end collision.

    6. GA Motorcycle Safety Program:

Supporting and funding programs such as the Motorcycle Rider Course is a true benefit to the safety of all on Georgia highways. It insures more properly trained motorcyclists on Georgia highways. Funding or assisting in the funding makes it possible for more to afford proper training.
